HAMLIN, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia state trooper fatally shot a man who was stabbing another trooper following a traffic stop, authorities said.
Three state troopers conducted the stop Wednesday in Lincoln County, and the driver, Harman Davis, 46, fled on foot into woods, state police said in a statement.
Trooper T.C. Hurley located Davis, and a struggle ensued. Davis used a knife to stab Hurley multiple times, the statement said. Trooper R.S. Clagg witnessed the attack and fired his weapon, striking and killing Davis, the statement said.
Hurley was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, underwent surgery and is stable.
