An 11-week-old kitten who has defied the odds and learned to thrive despite severe deformities is looking for a forever home.
Gumby is a playful, happy kitten who loves attention and can be mischievous, according to his caregivers at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA).
"We've never seen a cat quite like this," Dr. Rebecca Fellman, lead clinician of community and shelter medicine at MSPCA-Angell, said in a statement. "Both of Gumby's back legs are severely deformed with muscle contracture that limits his joint mobility, but he still manages to get around – often on all fours."
She added: "Gumby’s quite remarkable in that he’s actually doing well, despite the deformities.”

Where was Gumby found?
Gumby went to the Massachusetts shelter on Nov. 11 after leaving an overcrowded shelter in Texas. Specialists at MSPCA-Angell believed Gumby would have his best shot to stay alive if he came under their care.
Gumby is able to walk and use the litter box without developing sores, so no further intervention is necessary.
“He can’t jump around or climb stairs, and there are times that he will need help getting around," Erin Morey, clinic coordinator at MSPCA's Boston Adoption Center, said in a statement. "Long term, he might benefit from physical therapy or other forms of assistance, especially since his mobility and needs might change as he grows.”
Gumby requires an adopter with a close relationship with a veterinarian who can accommodate his special needs. Interested adopters can submit an inquiry here.
“We would love for Gumby to find his happy home before the holidays,” Morey said. “But given his medical condition, we want to find him the right environment to match his needs.”
